How should gynecomastia be treated?
Hormone tests and ultra-sonographic imaging of the breasts can be performed after the breast examination of the patient who has applied with the complaint of gynecomastia. Gynecomastia operation can be performed if these tests suggest no adverse findings.
How is a gynecomastia operation performed?
Gynecomastia operation must be performed in a surgery room under general anesthesia. Operation takes 1.5 to 2 hours approximately.
Liposuction or breast tissue excision is performed depending on the size of the breast tissue and the amount of fat and breast tissue. There won’t be any incision other than the cannula opening and it is preferred in moderate gynecomastia. For over-size breasts, an incision is made around the nipple in order to remove the excessive breast tissue.
Will I feel pain after the operation and what should beware of in the follow-up process?
Though the post-surgery process is not much painful, you may need to take the pain under control with painkillers on the first day. You need to wear a special corset for the first 6 weeks. You are advised to avoid sports activities for 3 weeks.
You may have edema, bruising and toughness in the breasts in the first days after the operation. Bruises will disappear by the end of the first week. The swelling, bruising and tightness in the breast tissue will be noticeable for the first 3 weeks. Swelling will improve after the third week. Breasts will have found their final shape by the third month. Operations like lymph drainage or radiofrequency can be applied after the third week in order to speed up recovery from edema.
