Breasts generally lose their aesthetic appearance, tightness and dynamic shape over time. Factors such as ageing, gravity, weight loss, strict diets, pregnancy or breast feedings play role in sagging breasts. Patients with sagging breasts who are otherwise pleased with the size of their breast, can undergo a breast lifting operation to help their breasts look more aesthetic, tight and upright.
Breast lifting operation is similar to reduction mammoplasty. Operation takes about 3 hours under general anesthesia. The extent of surgery may change depending on the size of the sagging breasts and expectations of the patient. Reshaping of sagging breasts will lead to a certain amount of reduction in the volume of the breasts due to resection of the sagging skin even if no tissue is resected.
How is the surgery process?
A meeting is conducted with the patient to discuss the details of the pre-surgery, surgery and post-surgery processes in order to meet the expectations and to eliminate anxiety. The patient must stop eating or drinking 6 hours in advance of the operation, as it will be performed under general anesthesia. Following routine blood and anesthesia tests, operation is performed unless you have any issue that poses an obstacle to surgery. Drawings are made in the morning of the operation day. Operations takes about 3 hours, after which you need to stay in hospital for 1 to 2 days with 2 drains and dressings. You need to wear a special brassiere and avoid physical contact for about 3 weeks following the operation. You are advised to minimize, ideally stop smoking at least 1 month in advance of the operation. You should also avoid taking aspirin or other blood thinners for a while as recommended by your physician.
